Josei - anime and manga aimed at a special target audience - young women aged 18 and older. Manga of this type is published in specialized josei magazines. Editors and publishers of josei are often women. It is a relatively recent phenomenon, emerging in the 1960s-1970s as an offshoot of Shoujo (manga and anime for girls), but with more thoughtful and complex plots and «adult» themes.
